Refining
The Bazzell
That’s
right…I am refining the Bazzell.
After
days of researching, planning, and talking…we finally took the plunge and bought
a new wheat grinder and a new dehydrator. After asking just about everyone I know what
kind of wheat grinder they have and what they like about it-we decided to buy
this one:
The Wondermill
Isn’t
it lovely?
Oh
the gentle lullaby of grinding wheat.
Is
there anything sweeter?
A
few years back a relative of ours gave us several buckets of wheat. I noticed that
the date on the buckets indicated that maybe we needed to start workin our way
through it. Hence the wheat grinder…(Besides...should Zombie's come...what would I do with a bunch of wheat and NO grinder..!)
Our first experiment
with it involved making cream of wheat. Now my kids LOVE Cream of Wheat…but
have you noticed how pricey it is? Crazy right? At least when you are trying to
feed 5-6 people each morning who are –ok let’s just say it- hearty eaters.
I
am proud to say that the first batch (after the grind and throw away batch)
came out perfect. I made some and my kiddo’s gobbled it. I welcome anyone over
who wants to come over and grind away…
Our
next purchase was a new food dehydrator. As with the grinder-I asked around.
This is the final decision…The Excalibur!
I
LOVE IT!!!!
Really.
I love it.
It
has 9 trays…yes 9 trays!
For
my first job, I decided to use up a bunch of old applesauce that was in my
basement gathering dust. It was sauce made from some seriously tart apples and no
one liked it. So….I added a couple boxes of Strawberry Jell-O to improve the
taste and TA-DA…Strawberry Fruit Leather for the kiddos. Not bad for my first
try, I think!
My
next job I will attempt to tackle granola…which is pretty easy for a dehydrator
I am told…so that should work out! When our fruit trees start to vomit there
offerings…we will be ready!
I
couldn’t be happier with my purchases! Next purchase will be the manual wheat
grinder…it can do homemade Peanut Butter as well…very cool!
So
there it is! Should the Zombie Apocalypse happen…come on over…I will have bread
and probably beans as well…..at least I will as soon as I buy a generator.
